Audio engineers are a vital part of HSI. Serving within HSI offers unique opportunities to use your gifts and talents in ways that could affect entire people groups.

Gifts and Talents.

HSI welcomes the involvement of both “audio enthusiasts” and top industry professionals alike. The complexity of a project can range from a single two-track stereo recording to a more complex multi-track recording project over many sessions. Regardless of your expertise, you are most likely to gain valuable experience as you face many unique challenges.

Project Planning and Preparation.

As part of an HSI project team, we will help you, as needed, for your role. As part of your preparation, you will usually receive a demo recording of the actual songs to be recorded and examples of the particular and relevant musical style(s). We will also help you prepare for the trip by way of cultural orientation, travel necessities and technical details.

Equipment.

Recording teams use a variety of formats. Often engineers bring their own equipment. To avoid ‘checking’ equipment on aircraft we recommend that the equipment fit in a ‘carry on’ size bag. Often a laptop, interface, cable and two or three microphones are the minimum. DAW’s, such as the Roland VS units, have been used as well. Remember, we are usually just tracking at this stage, so you may not need an extensive amount of equipment.

The mixing and mastering can be completed back in your studio or by another engineer.

Life on Location.

You should expect to face many unique situations, such as cultural and language differences, jet lag and technical challenges, just to name a few. We are usually hosted by local families and sometimes even sleep in the very room we will work in!

Work at Home.

Audio engineers are needed for the post production work of mixing and mastering. This means that if you are unable to travel away from home you are still welcome to share you gifts and be a part of HSI.
